Here are a couple of articles concerning Qatar that caught my attention in the last week or so.

-In an otherwise unremarkable article, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard correctly refers to Qatar as something of a Sweden-Switzerland of the desert. Switzerland is a comparison too far and perhaps Norway, not Sweden, would have been better but one mustn’t quibble. (23rd May, Daily Telegraph)

- AFP has Darfur rebels releasing 60 Sudanese troops as a good will gesture before peace talks in Doha.

- Qatar’s Heir apparent Sheikh Tammin bin Hamad Al Thani continues his on the job training with an important bilateral meeting with Japan’s Prime Minster Taro Aso.
